Tigers Cruise to Victory over Crusaders
Marion, AL. – The MMI men's basketball team improved their 2022-23 record to 6-3 after cruising to a 96-62 victory at home yesterday against the Crusaders of William Carey.
The Tigers started the game with a 5-0 run after they hit a three-pointer and Myles McClain connected on two free throws. The Crusaders scored on their next possession with an offensive putback. A Quandre Burroughs three-pointer gave Marion their first double digit lead, 13-2, with under 17 minutes to play before halftime.
The William Carey JV squad would put together several small runs to keep MMI's lead single digits until Burroughs scored from the charity stripe, an area that proved successful for the home team, hitting 18-of-20 from the line. An Eli Elston dunk, a Marselis Jones three-pointer, and an Elijah Marsh jumper helped the Tigers take a 42-29 lead at intermission.
Within the first three minutes of the second half, MMI built a twenty-point lead when Elston and Anthony Bryant went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and then Bryant hit from behind the three-point line; Marion led 49-29.
