MMI Concludes ACCC Women’s Tennis Tournament Tied for First
Albertville, AL—During the regular season, the MMI Lady Tigers and the Wallace State Community College-Hanceville Lions split two 5-4 matches. Wallace State won its match, 5-4, at home, and MMI won its match, 5-4, at home. On Friday and Saturday, the Alabama Community College Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at Sand Mountain Park provided a neutral site to settle the matter once and for all. That was not meant to be. In the only two matches that the two teams played against each other on Saturday, MMI won the singles contest on court 3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Wallace State won the doubles match on court 2, 9-8 (8). Both teams finished the tournament tied at 9-9.
MMI collected its nine points with singles wins by Julia Kelly at first singles (6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-4), Anna Waller at second singles (6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2), Madelyn Dibble at third singles (6-1, 6-0 and 4-6, 6-4, 6-1) and doubles wins by Kelly/Dibble at first doubles (8-2 and 8-0) and Waller/Eve Crossett at second doubles (8-5).
Julia Kelly claimed the ACCC MVP Award at No. 1 singles, and Anna Waller at No. 2 singles and Madelyn Dibble at No. 3 singles earned first-place medals. In doubles, Kelly and Dibble took the first-place medal, while Waller and Crossett walked away with the second-place medal.
The playoff match to crown the ACCC Women's Tennis Tournament Champion will be held this Wednesday, April 21, at the Gardendale Parks and Recreation Noble Athletic Complex in Gardendale, AL. Match time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
