Lady Tigers Win Last Match of the Day to Clip Lady Trojans, 5-4
Alexander City, AL—It all came down to the final match of the afternoon at the Central Alabama Community College tennis courts in a battle of the two Kelly's—Julia Kelly, MMI's No. 1 player, and Kelly Martin, CACC's No. 1 player from Australia. MMI's Kelly won the first set 6-2 but trailed 2-3 midway through the second. But it was MMI's Kelly that came up with the clutch shots time and time again down the stretch to close out the second set, 6-3, by winning the last four games of the match. That key point gave the Lady Tigers the razor-thin margin of victory, 5-4.
Earlier in the match, the Tigers notched two doubles points at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 8-3 and 8-1, respectively.
In other singles action, Anna Waller blanked Alyssa Vandiver at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Madelyn Dibble dropped two games in her 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
