Softball Wins Two Road Games at Reid State
Evergreen, AL. – The Marion Military Institute softball team won the first two games of their weekend series against Reid State Technical College on the road, 6-0 and 10-2. They will welcome the Lions to Rapier Field Saturday, March 14, for the final two games.
Game 1 MMI 6 RSTC 0
Marion scored two runs in the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. They added a run in the third, two in the sixth and one in the seventh inning for freshman starter Haylie Lee who earned the shutout win. In seven innings, she gave up six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Katie Hopson and Abigail Phillips each had two hits in the win. Hopson doubled twice with an RBI.
Also getting hits for the Tigers were: Nichole Dockery (1-for-4, 2SB, R), Carlie Blanton (1-for-3, R, RBI, BB), Destiny Brashears (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI), Alexandra Gray (1-for-3, R, BB), Haylie Lee (1-for-3, BB, RBI), and Kyren Damon (1-for-3, SB).
Game 2 MMI 10 RSTC 2
Reid took the lead in game two as they scored a run in each of the first two innings. Marion added three runs in the fourth inning to take a lead they would not surrender. Two more runs were added in the fifth inning with four runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to take game two and the doubleheader sweep.
Emily Rice started in the circle and earned the win for MMI. She gave up two hits, one earned run and walk with seven strikeouts in six innings. Freshman Emma Parmley worked one inning, allowing no hits or walks with one strikeout.
Katie Hopson kept a hoot bat with two hits, a double and a homerun, scoring twice and two RBI. Alexandra Gray and Shelby Black each finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Gray walked, scored once, and stole a base while Black doubled with two RBI.
Getting into the hit column for Marion was Nichole Dockery (1-for-4, R, RBI, BB), Carlie Blanton (1-for-2, 2R, 2BB), Abigail Phillips (1-for-3, 2R, RBI) and Kyren Damon (1-for-4, 2B, R, RBI).
