Softball Wins Home DH vs Moberly Area CC
Marion, AL. – The MMI softball team earned two wins yesterday against Moberly Area Community College. They will welcome East Central Community College to campus on Thursday for a doubleheader; first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Game 1 MMI 10 Moberly 2 (6 innings)
Emily Rice started in the circle for Marion and was relieved by freshman Emma Parmley in the sixth inning, who recorded three quick outs.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Alexandra Gray bunted for a hit and advanced to second a fielder's choice. Abigail Phillips singled, moving Gray to third base. Phillips stole second; Gray scored on the throw attempt.
Moberly scored two runs in the fourth inning off a homerun before Maron rallied with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead back, 3-2. Phillips singled up the middle and Destiny Brashears blasted a homerun over right field fence.
Marion added three more runs in the fifth inning. Nichole Dockery walked to lead off and was thrown out at second on a fielder's choice (A. Gray). Phillips reached on an error, scoring Gray. Shelby Black reached on another infield error and Brashears doubled off the right field fence to score two runs.
The sixth inning saw four runs cross the plate for MMI to end game one early. Carlie Blanton singled and Rebecca Roy bunted; an error allowed Roy to reach first base safely. Katie Hopson doubled, Phillips and Black each singled. Brashears walked and Haylie Lee doubled to walk off the win.
Game 2 MMI 18 Moberly 2 (5 Innings)
Emma Parmley started in the circle for Marion and was relieved by Haylie Lee who earned the win. Lee gave up four hits and two runs with one strikeout. Addison Mitchell worked the fourth inning with no hits or runs while Sidney Elam finished the fifth inning. Elam struck out three batters with no hits and one walk.
Marion saw thirteen batters come to the plate in the first inning, producing nine runs. Nichole Dockery walked and Alexandra Gray bunted for a hit, moving Dockery to third. Katie Hopson singled, scoring Dockery. Abigail Phillips singled to load the bases. Shelby Black walked, scoring Gray. Destiny Brashears walked to score Hopson. Phillip scored on a passed ball during Haylie Lee's at-bat; Lee walked. With two outs, Dockery singled to score Black. Hopson walked to score Lee. Dockery and Gray both scored on passed balls.
Marion added five more runs in the second inning. Shelby Black reached on an error and Brashears singled to right field. Lee walked to load the bases. With a new pitcher inserted for Moberly Area, Veronica Ward singled, scoring Black. Dockery walked, scoring another run. Hopson was hit by a pitch. Dockery and Gray each scored on a wild pitch.
Moberly scored two runs in the top of the third inning before MMI added four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brashears earned a one out walk. Lee walked and Carlie Blanton singled. Ward singled to score two runs. Dockery singled to plate another run. Ward scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.
