Lady Tigers Sweep Bevill State to End Regular Season
Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers closed out their regular season with a four-game sweep of Bevill State Community College and will now turn their attention to the Alabama Community College Conference tournament. They will face the winner of Bishop State CC/Shelton State CC Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The tournament will be held at Veteran's Park in Alabaster, Alabama.
Game 1: MMI 3 BSCC 2
Bevill State scored in their fist at-bat and the Lady Tigers matched that run in the bottom of the inning. Jaqulyn Braswell earned a one out walk and Karlee Pierson doubled to right field. Krislin Estes walked and with a 2-0 count on Avary Lumpkin, Bevill State switched pitchers. Lumpkin earned a walk and her first RBI of the day.
Marion added another run in the second inning when Jessica Cross led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Jazmin Healy sacrificed Cross to second and a single off the bat of Alexandra Erwin scored Cross.
Both teams remained scoreless until MMI added another run in the sixth inning. Jayden Kendrick singled up the middle and Cross followed with another up the middle single. With one out Erwin singled to score Kendrick.
BSCC scored one run in the top of the seventh inning but a lineout to centerfielder Carly Taylor ended the game and secured second place in the ACCC North and a first round bye in the ACCC Tournament for the Lady Tigers.
Game 2: MMI 3 BSCC 2
Marion took an early 2-0 lead after their first at-bat when Braswell earned a one out walk. Pierson singled to right field. Krislin Estes singled to score Braswell and Pierson advanced to third base; Estes advanced to second base during Avary Lumpkin's at-bat. A fielder's choice off the bat of Lumpkin scored Pierson.
BSCC scored a run in the fourth inning, but MMI added a run in their turn at the plate. Lumpkin doubled and a bunt by Carly Taylor moved her to third base. Jayden Kendrick hit a deep fly to left field, allowing Lumpkin to score.
Bevill State cut Marion's lead to one run, 3-2, in the fifth inning before sophomore Harleigh Anderson got the final batter of the inning to hit a ground ball to second baseman Jaqulyn Braswell.
Jaylee Crow worked the sixth inning in the circle for the Lady Tigers and head coach Jeff Benson turned to game one winner Kinley Bolton to close out the seventh inning and secure the doubleheader sweep.
Game 3: MMI 11 BSCC 10
Ashley Maddox, who came in relief of starter Kinley Bolton, earned the win in game one Sunday afternoon with fresman lefty Jaylee Crow also seeing action in relief.
Marion scored two runs in the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, and one run in the seventh inning to win game one. Krislin Estes, Jazmin Healy, and Jayden Kendrick each had two hits for the Lady Tigers. Kendrick scored twice, had two RBI with a double and a homerun.
Also getting hits for MMI was Alexandra Erwin (1-for-4, 2RBI, BB, 2SB), Jaqulyn Braswell (1-for-5, R, RBI), Jessica Cross (1-for-3, HR, 2R, BB, 2RBI), Avary Lumpkin (1-for-3, 2R, 2RBI, HR, BB), and Carly Taylor (1-for-4, R)
Game 4: MMI 8 BSCC 0
Harleigh Anderson earned her second win of the series, throwing all seven innings in game four. She gave up three hits and two walks with a strikeout.
Karlee Pierson finished with three hits, including two doubles, a stolen base and two RBI with a run scored to pace Marion's bats. Krislin Estes hit a homerun for one of her two hits with a run scored and two RBI.
