Softball Wins Three of Four from Snead State CC

Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers softball team won three of four games against Snead State Community College to improve to 30-20 overall, 19-9 in conference play.  They will conclude the regular season with a four-game series against Bevill State CC.

Game 1: MMI 3 SSCC 2

Both teams remained scoreless until MMI plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Jazmin Healy singled to centerfield and stole second base.  Alexandra Erwin singled to centerfield and advanced to second base during Jaqulyn Braswell's at-bat.  Karlee Pierson reached on an error, scoring Healy.  Krislin Estes sacrificed Erwin in off a pop fly to left field.

With sophomore lefty Kinley Bolton keeping the Parson's from scoring, Marion added another run in the fifth inning when Karlee Pierson singled with two outs and stole second base to get herself into scoring position.  A double off the bat of Estes scored Pierson.

Snead scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the Lady Tigers got a double play to end the game and secure the victory

Game 2: MMI 3 SSCC 1

Harleigh Anderson earned the win from the circle, giving up just one run to the Parsons in the top of the seventh inning.

Marion got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning when Jazmin Healy reached on an error and stole second base.  Alexandra Erwin singled and Healy advanced to third base.  A wild pitch allowed Healy to score and Erwin advanced to third base.  Karlee Pierson doubled to score Erwin; Pierson stole second on the first pitch of Krislin Estes' at-bat.  Estes singled in Pierson for MMI's third run.

Game 3: MMI 5 SSCC 1

The game three win gave the Lady Tigers the series win as Kinley Bolton earned her second win of the series.  In seven innings, she gave up five hits, one run (none earned) and one walk with three strikeouts.

Avary Lumpkin blasted two homeruns and Krislin Estes had one to pace the Marion bats.  Lumpkin finished with four RBI, a walk and two runs scored going 3-for-3 at the plate.    Also getting hits was Alexandra Erwin (1-for-4, R), Carly Taylor (1-for-2, BB), Jessica Cross (1-for-2, BB) and Jazmin Healy (1-for-3, 2B).

Game 4: MMI 5 SSCC 6

Snead State recorded their only win in the series after scoring four runs in the sixth inning and one in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Harleigh Anderson started in the circle for Marion and after working six innings was relieved by freshman Ashley Maddox.

Avary Lumpkin hit her third homerun of the day, finishing 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.  Alexandra Erwin, Jaqulyn Braswell, and Karlee Pierson each had two hits with Braswell hitting MMI's fifth HR of the day.  Carly Taylor (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI), Krislin Estes (1-for-3, R, BB), and Caroline Willis (1-for-4) also recorded hits in the loss.
