Softball Drops First ACCC North Series to CACC
Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers softball dropped their home doubleheader Saturday, dropping their first ACCC North series to the Lady Trojans of Central Alabama Community College.
GAME 1: MMI 5 CACC 7 (8 innings)
The Lady Trojans took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Marion added two runs in their turn at the plate to take the lead 2-1 when freshmen Avary Lumpkin and Caroline Willis each hit solo homeruns.
CACC tied the game in the third inning and the game remained that way until the visitors from Alexander City added two runs in the sixth inning. The Lady Tigers responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Lumpkin blasted another solo homerun beyond the left field fence.
MMI tied the game in the bottom of he seventh inning to push the game into extra innings when Krislin Estes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
CACC added two runs in the extra inning and MMI stranded a runner on first, Alexandra Erwin, to close out game one with the loss.
GAME 2: MMI 4 CACC 5
Central Alabama CC scored in their first at-bat but Marion answered with a run to tie the game at one run apiece when Alexandra Erwin led off with a walk. Jaqulyn Braswell sacrificed her to second and she advanced to third on a 5-3 putout. Erwin scored on a wild pitch.
Marion took a lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second inning when Krislin Estes delivered a solo homerun to left field with one out.
CACC added two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and another one in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Marion added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Braswell led off the at-bat with a single, and advanced to second base off an error. Avary Lumpkin connected for her third home run of the day, cutting the Lady Trojan's lead to 5-4.
Savannah Nabors led off MMI's last chance at the plate with a bloop single but she was stranded, giving the Lady Tigers the game two loss.
