Lady Tigers Sweep Southern Union

The Lady Tigers improved to 8-0 in ACCC North play after earning a four game sweep against Southern Union State Community College.  They will face Calhoun Community College this Thursday/Saturday in another ACCC North four game series with Saturday's doubleheader being played at home.

GAME 1: MMI 3 SUSCC 2

After Southern Union scored in their first plate appearance, Carly Taylor blasted a two-run homerun to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning.  The score remained 2-2 when the game was halted due to weather in the bottom of the seventh inning. MMI and SU resumed play Monday afternoon with Marion scoring a run to take the win.

Alexandra Erwin went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot to lead MMI at the plate.  She scored a run and stole three bases.  Jaqulyn Braswell, Karlee Pierson, Avary Lumpkin, Carly Taylor, and Jayden Kendrick all collected hits for Marion. 

Sophomore Kinley Bolton earned the win from the circle.  In seven innings, she gave up five hits, two runs and two walks with seven strikeouts.

GAME 2: MMI 9 SUSCC 1

Kinley Bolton earned her second win of the day giving up five hits, a walk, and a run (none earned) while striking out six batters.

Jaqulyn Braswell finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and one run scored for the Lady Tigers.  Alexandra Erwin and Carly Taylor each went 2-for-3 with Erwin earning a walk and scoring twice; Taylor doubled with two RBI.

Karlee Pierson, Jessica Cross, Avary Lumpkin, Krislin Estes, Jazmin Healy and Jayden Kendrick also had hits in the win.

GAME 3: MMI 4 SUSCC 3

Harleigh Anderson started for the Lady Tigers in the circle and worked 3.2 innings.  She gave up four hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out five batters.  Kinley Bolton earned her third win of the series after working 3.1 innings of relief.  She gave up three hits, a walk and a run with three strikeouts.

Getting hits for MMI was Alexandra Erwin (1-for-3), Jaqulyn Braswell (1-for-3, 1R, 1RBI), Jessica Cross (1-for-3, a double, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB), Avary Lumpkin (1-for-3, a double, 1R, 1RBI),  Krislin Estes (1-for-3, a homerun, 1R, 2RBI), Jayden Kendrick (1-for-3), and Jazmin Healy (1-for-1, 2BB).

GAME 4: MMI 13 SUSCC 5

Head coach Jeff Benson turned to two freshmen for the final game of the series with righthander Ashley Maddox earning the start.  Maddox gave up seven hits, five runs, and a walk with one strikeout.  Lefty Jaylee Crow worked 4.1 innings with two strikeouts and a walk with three hits and no runs.

Avary Lumpkin led MMI with three RBI on her way to a 3-for-5 performance at the plate.  Alexandra Erwin, Jaqulyn Braswell, Karlee Pierson, and Krislin Estes each had two hits. Erwin and Estes scored a run apiece and Estes added an RBI.  Braswell stole two bases, recorded a double and a homerun as she scored three times and matched Lumpkin's three RBI.  Pierson had a double, stole a base, was walked once, and scored four runs with two RBI.
