Lady Tigers Earn Two More Wins in ACCC North
Marion, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers softball team improved to 4-0 in the ACCC North after defeating Northwest Shoals CC twice yesterday afternoon.
GAME 1: MMI 9 NWS 0
Sophomore Kinley Bolton worked five scoreless innings to gain the win from the circle in game one. Her teammates scored three runs in their first at-bat after seeing back-to-back-toback singles by Alexandra Erwin, Jaqulyn Braswell, and Karlee Pierson; Pierson's single scored MMI's first run. Jessica Cross earned her first hit by pitch of the day to load the bases. With two outs Hannah Lockhart singled to score two runs.
Marion added another run in the second inning when Erwin doubled to left field to lead off the inning. Pierson reached on an infield hit, moving Erwin to third; Pierson stole second base. Cross was hit by another pitch to load the bases and Krislin Estes walked to plate a run.
After being held scoreless in the third inning, Marion added five runs in the fourth inning. Pierson led off with a double to center field. Cross walked and Krislin Estes was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Caroline Wilson singled to third base but Pierson was called safe at the plate. Carly Taylor singled to left field to add another run. Jazmin Healy and Alexandra Erwin earned back-to-back walks for two more runs. With a new pitcher in the circle for NWS, Braswell's fielders choice scored the Lady Tiger's final run.
Pierson finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI while Erwin went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Also collecting hits for MMI was Braswell, Lockhart, and Taylor.
GAME 2: MMI 12 NWS 4
Harleigh Anderson started for MMI in the circle and earned the win with Ashley Maddox and Kinley Bolton both seeing action in relief.
Northwest Shoals scored first to take an early 1-0 lead. Marion tied the game in the second inning when Krislin Estes doubled to right field with one out. Carly Taylor scored Estes on a double. MMI added five runs in the next inning when Alexandra Erwin reached on an error. Jaqulyn Braswell sacrificed her to second base and Karlee Pierson reached first on an infield error. Jesscia Cross bunted, scoring Erwin. Avary Lumpkin doubled to score Pierson. Estes and Caroline Wilson hit back-to-back singles with Wilson earning the RBI. With a new pitcher for NWS, Carly Taylor reached on a fielder's choice; an errant throw by the Patriot's infield allowed two runs to cross the plate.
NWS added three runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-4. MMI added a run in the bottom half of the inning. Braswell reached first on an error and Jessica Cross was hit by a pitch. Krislin Estes earned a two-out walk to load the bases and Caroline Wilson walked to record another RBI.
Bolton held the Patriots' batters to one hit the rest of the game and the Lady Tigers added four runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning to end the game early. Jazmin Healy led off the fourth inning with a walk and Erwin tripled off a new Patriot pitcher, scoring Healy. Braswell got an infield hit scoring Erwin. Cross was hit by a pitch and Avary Lumpkin doubled, plating a run. A fielder's choice off the bat of Estes scored the final run of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning and two quick outs, Erwin doubled. After a new pitcher was inserted in the circle for NWS, Braswell bunted for a hit, allowing Erwin to score.
