Softball Drops First DH of Season
Dothan, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers dropped their first doubleheader of the season on the road to the Lady Govs of Wallace CC-Dothan.
GAME 1: MMI 6 WCC-D 7
Marion gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to drop game one Tuesday afternoon. Addison Jennings, the Lady Tigers DP, went 3-for4 from the plate with a double and a run scored to lead the offense. Jessica Cross and Jaqulyn Braswell each had two hits with Cross hitting a homerun and double with 5 RBI; Braswell scored twice with one RBI.
Also getting hits in the loss was Alexandra Erwin, Carly Taylor, Karlee Pierson, Avary Lumpkin, and Krislin Estes.
Sophomore Kinley Bolton threw six innings for Marion before being relied by Harleigh Anderson and Ashley Maddox; Anderson took the loss.
GAME 2: MMI 6 WCC-D 10
The Lady Govs scored nine runs in the first two innings and held on to give MMI their second loss of the day. Freshman Jaylee Crow took the loss; she was relieved by Ashley Maddox.
Alexandra Erwin went 4-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI while scoring two runs to lead MMI's offense from the leadoff spot. Jaqulyn Braswell had two hits in two plate appearances with two runs scored. Karlee Pierson added two hits with a double, two RBI and one run scored. Jessica Cross had a double with two RBI.
MMI will travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend to compete in the Sun Chief Classic Tournament, hosted by Coastal Alabama CC-South. On Friday, February 17, MMI is scheduled to play Copiah Lincoln CC at 9:00 a.m. and Chattanooga State CC at 1:30 p.m. Saturday they will face Pearl River CC at 3:45 p.m. and Pensacola State CC at 6:00 p.m.
