Lady Tigers Start 2023 Season 2-2
Albertville, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers opened their 2023 spring season at the Kickoff Classic, hosted by Snead State Community College.
Game 1: MMI 8 Chattanooga State 9
Jessica Cross went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead MMI's offense with three RBI, two doubles and a homerun. She also scored two runs. Karlee Pierson added two hits in three plate appearance with two RBI and two runs, with two doubles.
Also getting hits for Marion was Alexandra Erwin, Carly Taylor, Avary Lumpkin, Krislin Estes, and Rebecca Fondren.
Harleigh Anderson started on the mound for MMI and was relieved by Ashley Maddox and Kinley Bolton.
Game 2: MMI 10 Columbia State CC 0
Freshman Ashley Maddox recorded her first win of the spring season from the mound. In five innings she gave up just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Karlee Pierson and Alexandra Erwin paced the Tigers at the plate. Pierson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two triples and a team high four RBI; Erwin added three hits and two RBI while scoring three runs.
Carly Taylor and Avary Lumpkin each had two hits with Lumpkin adding a double and homerun.
Game 3: MMI 11 Motlow State CC 1
Sophomores Carly Taylor and Jessica Cross helped Harleigh Anderson record her first win on the mound, leading the Lady Tigers offensive attack. Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI with two runs scored. Cross blasted another homerun for one of her two hits with a team high four RBI. Avary Lumpkin finished with two doubles and an RBI.
Also getting hits for MMI was Karlee Pierson, Addison Jennings, and Jaqulyn Braswell.
Game 4: MMI 1 Walters State CC
Jessica Cross' homerun was the only run scored by MMI in their last game of the Kickoff Classic. Karlee Pierson, Rebecca Fondren, and Cross collected the only hits of the game as Walters State scored seven runs in the second inning.
Kinley Bolton took the loss from the mound with Harleigh Anderson seeing action in relief.
MMI will travel to Scooba, MS this Friday (weather permitting), February 3, for a doubleheader against East Mississippi CC. Game times are 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
