Tigers Split with Bisons at Home

Marion, AL. – After defeating the Bisons from Southern Union State Community College in the game one of yesterday's doubleheader, the Lady Tigers dropped game two to earn a split for the day.  Marion is scheduled to travel to Wadley, Alabama this Saturday to play the final two games of the series with a 1:00 start time.

Game 1: MMI 8 SUSCC 2

Southern Union started off the game scoring two runs to take an early lead.  Marion answered with one run in their first at-bat when Jessica Morales led off with a walk.  Carly Taylor sacrificed her to second and Morales scored off a single by Jessica Cross.

After freshman starter Kinley Bolton held the Bisons scoreless in the second inning, MMI added five runs to take their first lead of game one.  Kaela Gimberg singled and Jaycie Armstrong sacrificed her to second base.  Jazmin Healy singled up the middle to put runners on first and third.  Healy took second with no throw on the first pitch of Meredith Taylor's at-bat.  Taylor singled to score Gimberg; she took second on a throw to the plate.  Jessica Morales' fielder's choice enabled Healy to score with a close play at the plate; she advanced to second on the next pitch putting runners on second and third once again for the Lady Tigers.  Carly Taylor brought a run home on a fielder's choice.  Jessica Cross blasted a homerun over center field fence, scoring two more runs.  MMI led 6-2.

Marion added another run in the third inning when Jaycie Armstrong hit a two out double.  Jazmin Healy singled, scoring Armstrong.

The final run scored by MMI was in the fifth inning when Maris Stinchcomb and Erin Babineaux led off with back-to-back walks.  Kaela Gimberg singled and Stinchcomb was called out at third base.  Armstrong singled to bring in Babineaux across the plate.

Bolton held the Bison scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings to take the complete game win.

Game 2: MMI 1 SUSCC 5

The bats for MMI went silent in game two, only bringing in one run in the sixth inning.  Jessica Cross was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game with two outs.  Maris Stinchcomb doubled to score Cross.

Harleigh Anderson took the loss from the circle as the Bisons scored three runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to give the Lady Tigers the loss.
