Softball Splits DH with Calhoun to Start ACCC Play 1-1

Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers softball team earned a doubleheader split to start ACCC North play yesterday afternoon.  They will travel to Decatur, Alabama today to face Calhoun CC for the final two games in the series.

Game 1: MMI 4 Calhoun 3

Marion scored in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead in game one of the Thursday afternoon doubleheader.   Erin Babineaux earned a one out walk and Jazmin Healy singled up the middle.  Jaycie Armstrong walked and Carly Taylor singled to plate MMI's run.  Freshman Kinley Bolton took the circle to start for Marion and held the War Hawks scoreless until the fifth inning when they scored two runs to take their first lead of the game, 2-1. 

The Lady Tigers tied the game at two runs apiece in their next at-bat.  Meredith Taylor led off with a walk.  Jessica Morales sacrificed her to second and Maris Stinchcomb singled to score Taylor and earn her first RBI of the day.

Calhoun added a run in the sixth inning after an infield error by Marion allowed a runner from second base to cross the plate.  Jessica Cross homered to lead off the home team's next at-bat to tie the game once again at 3-3.

With freshman Harleigh Anderson seeing action in relief of Bolton, she kept the War Hawks scoreless in the top of the seventh inning.  Carly Taylor singled and took second on a passed ball for Marion in the bottom half of the inning.  Meredith Taylor walked.  Kaela Gimberg was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Stinchcomb who singled to give Marion the walk-off win 4-3.

Game 2: MMI 4 Calhoun 13

Harleigh Anderson earned the start for MMI in game two and got behind early due to infield errors.  After two innings and the Lady Tigers down 8-0, the home team got their first run in the third inning when Jessica Morales singled and stole second.  She took third on a fly ball hit to right field and scored on a hard hit to the pitcher.

MMI added two more runs in the fourth inning.  Erin Babineaux walked to lead off the at-bat and Jazmin Healy singled.  Jaycie Armstrong doubled to score both Babineaux and Healy.  Another run in the sixth inning cut the lead to four when Babineaux hit into a fielder's choice and scored Kaela Gimberg who singled to lead off the at-bat.

Calhoun added a run in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to take the lopsided victory.
