Lady Tigers Win Two Games In Home Fall Debut

Marion, AL. – The MMI Lady Tigers softball team hosted Wallace CC-Dothan and East Mississippi CC yesterday for their first fall home games.

Game 1 – Freshman Kinley Bolton earned the start in the circle for MMI and threw a complete game for an 8-7 win.  The Lady Govs from Dothan scored three runs in their first at-bat, but Marion rebounded with four runs to take an early 4-3 lead.  Jessica Morales led off with an infield hit and stole second base for Takya Garrett who scored Morales on a hit to right field.  Nataley Whitner followed with a hit to put runners on second and third.  Jessica Cross, MMI's starting catcher, scored Takya.  Kaela Gimberg brought in Whitner, and Erin Babineaux scored Cross.

Wallace tied the game at four runs each in the second inning and both teams remained scoreless until Marion scored three runs in the fifth inning.  Jazmin Healy led off with a hit and was sacrificed to second by Meredith TaylorJessica Morales reached on an error, moving Healy to third.  Garrett got her second hit of the game, scoring Healy.  She stole second, putting runners on second and third for Whitner who followed with another base hit.  Morales scored on a wild pitch.

Marion added another run in the sixth inning with Carly Taylor getting a one out base hit.  She stole second to get into scoring position for Meredith Taylor who collected a two-out hit.

Wallace-Dothan scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to make the game close, but Kinley finished the game with a strikeout and her first fall win.

Game 3 – After EMCC and WCC-Dothan played the second game of the day, MMI and EMCC faced each other for the final game of the afternoon.

Harleigh Anderson started for Marion and worked five innings, earning her first fall win.  Alexus Lambert threw two innings in relief for MMI.

With the score 0-0 through two innings, EMCC scored in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Marion tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Nataley Whitner led off with a base hit.  With one out Kaela Gimberg reached on an error and Erin Babineaux walked to load the bases.  Carly Taylor hit to left field and Whitner tagged up for the Lady Tigers' first run.

Whitner led off the sixth inning for MMI with another hit.  Jessica Cross bunted and reached on an error.  Kaela Gimberg bunted and another EMCC error allowed two runs to score for the Lady Tigers.  With two outs Carly Taylor doubled scoring their third run of the inning. 

EMCC added two runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.  MMI led 4-3.

The seventh inning saw Courtney McGraw lead off with a walk.  Takya Garrett bunted for a hit and Nataley Whitner was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Jessica Cross reached on an error, scoring a run for MMI.  Gimberg walked to plate another run and a base hit off the bat of Babineaux scored two more runs.  Meredith Taylor reached on an error, allowing one more run to cross the plate. 

EMCC plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Lady Tigers the 9-5 victory.
