Early Morning Saturday Trip Proves Successful for Men’s XC

Huntsville, AL. – To say that head cross country coach, Chad Balentine, was excited with the men's results Saturday morning at the UAH Charger Open, is an understatement.  "Great meet today for the men!" commented Balentine after seeing six of the ten guys run a personal best, with another running a season best, and two others completing their first ever 8k races.  "The men's team average time improved by over a minute today.  The guys ran extremely well and we're starting to get healthy and adjust better to the 8k distances.  All in all, a very good showing today! I'm excited to see what lies ahead over the next month."

The Tigers were led again by freshman James Stover who crushed his personal best by 1:41, crossing the line in a time of 26:29.  Besides being the first junior college runner to cross the finish line, Stover's time also set a new MMI record, topping Nicholas Abbinanti's 2013 school record by 13 seconds.  He was followed by Daniel Gaffney with a time of 28:38 and Tyler Malone with a season best 29:14. Brennan Whalen ran a season best with a time of 30:22 as did Jackson Gary with a season best 30:33.

MMI will travel to Berry College Saturday, October 16, for their final regular season meet.
