Tigers Cruise to Home Victory
Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers defeated Bishop State Community College at home last night, 96-52, to improve to 3-1 on the season. They will host Lurleen B. Wallace CC Thursday, November 18, with a 7:00 p.m. scheduled tip-off in the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.
Bishop State took an early lead to start the contest before freshman point guard Myles McClain gave the Tigers their first advantage two minutes into the game. The Tigers extended the lead to 11-5 before the visitors from Mobile, Alabama put together a small run and took the lead back at the 12:18 mark. Both teams exchanged baskets over the next five minutes until Devin Graham scored on a layup to give Marion a 21-20 lead; a lead they never relinquished. Marion put together a run and built their lead to double digits (35-24) when Kenney Gaines, Jr. stole the ball and finished with a dunk at the rim. MMI took a 39-25 lead into halftime.
Derrick Hutchins, Jr. scored on back-to-back plays for the Tigers after intermission and grew the lead to eighteen (43-25). Jordan Long found Hutchins at the 16:07 mark for another easy basket, growing the Tiger's lead to twenty, 51-31. Marion extended the lead throughout the remaining minutes and cruised to the lopsided victory.
Nyrek Wheeler led the Tigers with 20 points. Kenney Gaines, Jr. added 17 points while Myles McClain (14) and Devin Graham (11) each finished scoring in double figures.
