Tigers Split Series with Shelton State

Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers split the four-game series against the Bucs of Shelton State Community College, winning games one and two at Scott G. Davis Field.  With the split, Marion is sitting at 23-21 overall, 11-13 in the ACCC North.

The next four-game series has the Tigers travelling to Boaz, Alabama this Thursday as they face Snead State Community College.  The final two games will be played at home Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: MMI 5 SSCC 4

The Tigers came back in game one of the four game series, and after scoring three runs in the sixth inning was able to secure the victory.  Jayson Wood earned the win from the mound after relieving starter Landen Williams.  Wood gave up two hits, one run (none earned) and two walks with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings.  Luke Fondren earned his first save of the day working the seventh inning, giving up no hits nor runs.

Nicholas Purvis went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI with one run scored.  Also getting hits for MMI was Jack Beck (1-for-2, 2R), Camden Matthews (1-for-2, 2RBI, 2B), John Tunnell (1-for-2, R,2B), and Luca Maberry (1-for-3, RBI).

Game 2: MMI 6 SSCC 1

Marion scored two runs in the third and fourth innings, and then added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings to claim the doubleheader sweep day one.

Nicholas Copen threw 5.2 inning to gain the win, giving up five hits, one run (none earned) with a walk and three strikeouts.  Luke Fondren earned a save giving up no hits or runs and just one walk in 1.1 innings of work.

Major Paracca finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI, a double and a walk to pace the Tiger hitters.  Jack Beck (1-for-4, R, 2RBI, HR), Nicholas Purvis (1-for-2, R, RBI, BB, HR), Camden Matthews (1-for-3), and Skyler Smith (1-for-2, R) also recorded hits for the Tigers.

Game 3: MMI 2 SSCC 6

Mason Green went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored as the Tigers dropped game one Saturday afternoon at Shelton State CC.  Jack Beck (1-for-4) and Nicholas Purvis (1-for-1, R, 2RBI, HR) also collected hits for Marion.

Gavin Chandler took the loss from the mound with Harrison Poplin and Maxwell Grogan seeing action in relief.

Game 4: MMI 0 SSCC 1

With both teams recording four hits each, the Bucs scored the game's lone run in the sixth inning to take game two.  Jack Beck (1-for-3), Nicholas Purvis (1-for-3), Camden Matthews (1-for-3), and Nicholas Copen (1-for-2) all had hits for the Tigers.

Jacob Marshall took the loss with Luke Fondren seeing action in relief.
