Baseball Splits Home DH with CACC

Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers baseball team split their doubleheader yesterday against the Trojans from Central Alabama Community College.  They are scheduled to finish the four game series Saturday, March 25, with a 2:00 p.m. start (weather permitting).

GAME 1: MMI 3 CACC 2

Marion scored three runs in their first at-bat as Jack Beck led off the inning with a single to left field.  Mason Green sacrificed him to second base and Nicholas Purvis singled to score Beck.  Nicholas Copen walked and after Luca Maberry hit into a fielder's choice, John Tunnell doubled to score Purvis and Copen.

Jacob Marshall started on the mound for MMI and worked four scoreless innings.  Nicholas Copen saw action in the fifth inning when CACC scored their first run.  Luke Fondren started the sixth inning for the Tiges and after giving up a run in that inning, recorded two strikeouts and  a 6-3 put out to secure the win.

GAME 2: MMI 2 CACC 7

Matthew Casey earned the start for MMI in game two and after holding CACC scoreless in their first at-bat, MMI took an early 1-0 lead.  Jack Beck walked to start the bottom half of the inning.  He took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a hit to the second baseman by Mason GreenNicholas Purvis singled, scoring Beck.

CACC tied the game in the second inning and took their first lead in the top of the fourth inning.  The Trojans added five runs in the sixth inning when Casey was relieved by sophomore reliever Braeden Brown.  Marion added a run in the bottom of the inning when Green doubled with one out.  Camden Matthews doubled, scoring Green.

With Marion down 7-2, the Tigers were able to get the bases loaded in the their last chance at the plate but couldn't put together a rally, dropping game two.
