Marshall and Poplin Earn Wins in First ACCC North Series

The MMI baseball team started ACCC North play with a pair of doubleheader splits against the Bisons of Southern Union State Community College.  With an overall record of 14-10, the Tigers are 2-2 in conference play.

The Tigers will face Calhoun Community College in another ACCC North four game series this Thursday and Saturday with Thursday being played at home; game one is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.

GAME 1: MMI 1 SUSCC 5

MMI plated their only run in the third inning as they dropped the first game of the four game series on the road in Wadley, Alabama.  Jack Beck led the Tigers at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 and scoring Marion's lone run.  Also collecting hits for Marion was Luca Maberry, Nicholas Purvis, Sage Hayes, John Tunnell, Skyler Smith, Major Paracca, and Maason Green.

Matthew Casey took the loss from the mound, working six innings and giving up eight hits, five runs (three earned) with two walks and three strikeouts.

GAME 2: MMI 3 SUSCC 2

The Tigers earned the doubleheader split with Jacob Marshall collecting the win and Luke Fondren the save.  In five innings, Marshall gave up five hits, two runs (one earned) with five strikeuts; Fondren struck out three batters with a walk in two innings.

Jack Beck, Nicholas Purvis, Sage Hayes, Nicholas Copen, John Tunnell, and Major Paracca each had a hit in the win.

GAME 3: MMI 2 SUSCC 8

Nicholas Purvis, Sage Hayes, Nicholas Copen, and Major Paracca had two hits apiece in the first game at home Saturday afternoon.

Landen Williams threw five innings and gave up six hits and eight runs (four earned) to take the loss for Marion.  Maxwell Grogan worked two scoreless innings in releif.

GAME 4: MMI 4 SUSCC 0

Jack Beck once again led the Tigers at the plate wih three hits in four plate appearances and an RBI.  Nicholas Copen and Major Paracca each went 2-for-3 with Copen doubling twice and scoring a run; Paracca scored once and had an RBI.

Skyler Smith, Mason Green, and Jake Smithson also had hits for MMI in the win.

Harrison Poplin eearned the win after working 5.1 innnings from the mound.  He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out two Bison batters.  Austin Collins and Braeden Brown also saw action in releif.
