Baseball Splits DH with Enterprise State
Marion, AL. – The MMI Tigers split a baseball doubleheader at home against the Boll Weevils of Enterprise State Community College. Marion will travel to Mobile, Alabama Thursday, January 23, for two games against Spring Hill College.
GAME 1: MMI 3 ESCC 5
With the Tigers down 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Camden Matthews connected for a three-run homerun for their only runs of the game, scoring Nicholas Copen (3-for-4) and Sage Hayes (1-for-4) who were both on base.
Also getting hits for MMI were Jack Beck, Nicholas Purvis, Skyler Smith, and John Tunnell.
Landen Williams took the loss from the mound. In five innings, he allowed five hits, four runs (two earned) with five strikeouts. Luke Fondren worked two innings of relief, allowing a hit, a walk and a run while striking out four batters.
GAME 2: MMI 7 ESCC 0
Matthew Casey earned the win for Marion in game two with Harrison Poplin seeing action in relief. Casey allowed three hits and four walks in four innings on the mound while Poplin struck out one and allowed two hits in three innings.
Sage Hayes led MMI's offense with three hits in four plate appearances. Nicholas Purvis went 2-for-3 from the DH position with a double, two RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Skyler Smith and Cole Morton were the other Tiger batters to record hits in the win.
