Tigers Split Doubleheader against Coastal-East to Start Season

Brewton, AL – The MMI Tigers split their opening doubleheader with the Warhawks walking off the win in game one and Marion taking game two.

Game 1: MMI 6 COA-EAST 7

Coastal Alabama CC-East used a homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to take victory in game with sophomore AJ Crocker taking the loss for MMI.

Nicholas Purvis, Marion's starting catcher, went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, a walk and one run scored.  Jack Beck finished with two hits with one run scored.  Also collecting hits for the Tigers was Sage Hayes, Camden Matthews, John Tunnell, Cole Morton, and Nicholas Copen.

Game 2: MMI 9 COA-EAST 5

Jacob Marshall earned the start on the mound for MMI and was relieved by Harrison Poplin, who earned his first win of the season. 

Jack Beck, John Tunnell, and Jake Smithson each had two hits and scored a run for MMI.  Skyler Smith, Mason Green, and Nicholas Purvis also recorded hits in the win.

MMI will travel to Selma, Alabama Monday, February 6, for a re-scheduled doubleheader against the Patriots of Wallace CC.  First pitch is 12:00 p.m.
