Tigers Take Series with CACC 3-1
Marion, AL. – After splitting the first two games of the series with Central Alabama Community College, the MMI Tigers won two games at home to take the four-game series, 3-1. The Tigers will face Lawson State CC in another four-game ACCC North series starting Thursday at home; first pitch is scheduled at 12:00 p.m.
Game 1: MMI 8 CACC 1
After the Trojans of CACC scored in their first at-bat, Marion's starting pitcher Landen Williams kept them scoreless through the sixth inning when he was relieved by Camden Matthews. Matthews got the final batter to hit into a 4-6-3 double play.
The Tigers took the lead 3-1 after the first inning. Trenten Justice and Jack Beck drew back-to-back walks. With one out, Nicholas Purvis and Colby Davis each walked to bring in a run. Nicholas Copen doubled to bring in two more runs.
Marion added three runs in the third inning when Davis singled with one out. Copen singled, moving Davis to third base. Luca Maberry singled, scoring Davis; he moved to second on the throw to the plate. John Tunnell followed with another single; Copen scored and Maberry moved to third base. Maberry scored during Mason Green's plate appearance on a passed ball.
The home team added a run in the fourth inning when Davis reached first base on an infield hit. Luca Maberry was hit by a pitch. Tunnell singled Davis in for the Tiger's seventh run. They added their final run in the sixth inning after Copen led off with a walk. Tunnell singled and Justice was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jack Beck walked, allowing Tunnell to score.
Game 2: MMI 13 CACC 1
Two grand slams allowed the Tigers to finish the Trojans off for a 13-1 victory in five innings. With neither team able to score in their first at-bats, the Tigers saw thirteen batters come to the plate in the second inning, scoring nine runs. Nicholas Purvis and Colby Davis walked. Nicholas Copen had an infield hit to load the bases for Luca Maberry who singled to score Purvis. John Tunnell hit into a 4-3 fielder's choice, allowing Davis to cross home plate. Mason Green's hit to the shortstop allowing Copen to score. Trenten Justice singled to left field, scoring Maberry. Jack Beck singled and an infield error allowed Hunter Stowe to reach first base; Justice scored. Purvis walked for the second time in the inning and Colby Davis connected for Marion's first grand slam.
MMI's starter, Connor White, worked into the fourth inning surrendering just one run when Judson McKinney came to the mound in relief. After holding the Trojans scoreless in the fifth inning, Marion plated four more runs in the bottom of that inning to take the early win. Copen singled up the middle to lead off Marion's at-bat. John Tunnell reached on an error and Mason Green walked to load the bases for Trenten Justice who hit the Tiger's second grand slam of the game.
