Tigers Split First Two Games with Bevill State CC
MMI Baseball split a home doubleheader yesterday afternoon with a walk-off win in the seventh inning of game two. The Tigers will travel to Fayette, Alabama Saturday to finish the four-game series with game one scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
Game 1: MMI 1 BSCC 4
After the Bears from Bevill State CC scored a run in the top of the third inning, Marion answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Luca Maberry singled and John Tunnell sacrificed him to second base. Jack Beck reached first on an infield hit, moving Maberry to third. Hunter Stowe doubled allowing Maberry to score.
The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when BSCC added three runs. MMI's bats went silent in their last attempt, giving the visitors game one victory.
Game 2: MMI 7 BSCC 6
After BSCC scored twice in their first plate appearance, Marion answered with three runs to take an early 3-2 lead. Trenten Justice and Colby Davis led off with back-to-back walks. With one out Hunter Stowe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a Bear's pitching change, Nicholas Purvis hit a shot to the second dbase, allowing a run to cross the plate; Purvis was safe at first base. Camden Matthews walked, and Mason Green doubled to plate two more runs for the Tigers.
Bevill State tied the game in the top of the second inning, but sophomore Trenten Justice connected on the homerun to centerfield in MMI's at-bat to give the lead back to the home squad.
The Bears tied the game in the fifth inning and took the lead back in the sixth inning when they added another run. They would add to their lead in the seventh inning; MMI trailed 4-6 going into their last at-bat.
Nicholas Purvis singled to lead off the inning. Camden Matthews and Mason Green both reached first base on infield errors. With bases loaded Luca Maberry hit a deep fly ball to right field, allowing Purvis to trot home. With MMI down 6-5 John Tunnell hit a ball down the left field line, allowing two runs to score.
Maxwell Grogan threw a complete game, earning the win from the mound for the Tigers.
