Tigers Sweep Home DH versus Parsons
Marion, AL. – After dropping two games to the Parsons of Snead State Community College Friday afternoon, the Tigers swept the home doubleheader, to even the four-game series at two games apiece.
Game 1: MMI 3 Snead State 1
With Landen Williams holding the Parsons scoreless in the first inning, MMI scored twice to give the home squad an early 2-0 lead. Colby Davis led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. Trenten Justice singled. Hunter Stowe reached on an error, allowing David to score. Jack Beck doubled and scored Justice.
Neither team crossed the plate until the fourth inning when the Parsons added their only run of the game. Marion answered with run in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs Braeden Brown reached first base on an error, and then stole second. Davis followed, again reaching base on another Parson's error to put runners on first and third. The third error of the inning for Snead State's infield allowed Justice to reach first base; Brown scored. After four innings, MMI held a 3-1 lead.
The Parsons tried to rally in the fifth and seventh innings, but relievers AJ Crocker and Jonah Leland kept the visitors from Boaz, Alabama from scoring, and securing game one victory.
Game 2: MMI 8 Snead State 7
The Parsons scored in their first at-bat off sophomore starter Nicholas Copen and took the early lead. Marion added two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead 2-1. With two outs, Mason Green walked. Camden Matthews reached first base on an error and both runners advanced one base on a passed ball. John Tunnell singled, scoring Green. Matthews scored on the second passed ball of the inning.
After Snead State scored twice in the top of the third inning to take the lead back, the Tigers added three runs giving the home squad a 5-3 lead. Hunter Stowe earned a two out walk. Nicholas Purvis was hit by a pitch. Jack Beck singled, scoring Stowe. Purvis advanced on a passed ball and Mason Green doubled to plate two runs.
Head coach Matt Downs turned to Joshua Mehmen to relieve Copen in the middle of the fourth inning; he kept the Parsons from scoring.
Marion added three more runs in the fifth inning when Trenten Justice led off with a double. Hunter Stowe walked. Nicholas Purvis placed a ball over the spectators on the MMI hill, giving the Tigers an 8-3 lead.
With the Parsons starting a rally in the top of the seventh inning, a couple infield errors allowed Snead State to load the bases. A grand slam allowed the visitors to cut the lead to 8-7 but a put out by Braeden Brown at third base ended the game.
