Tigers Finish 2-1-1 in First ACCC North Series
Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team lost and tied the War Hawks from Calhoun Community College Friday afternoon to take the series 2-1-1. They will travel to Wadley, Alabama Thursday, March 17, to face the Bisons of Southern Union State Community College for their second ACCC North series. Marion will play at home Saturday, March 19, with a 12:00 p.m. scheduled start.
Game 1: MMI 4 Calhoun 6
Calhoun scored three runs in the second inning to take an early lead with Marion answering in the bottom half of that inning with a run. Luca Maberry was hit by a pitch and took second on a passed ball. John Tunnell singled and moved to second on a passed ball; Maberry moved to third. Trenten Justice's fielder's choice scored Maberry.
After Calhoun scored once in the fourth inning, MMI added two runs when Tunnell reached on an error to lead off the at-bat. Colby Davis reached on an error for Nicholas Copen who doubled down the left field line, scoring both runs.
The War Hawks added two more runs in the sixth inning and after being held scoreless in the seventh inning, the Tigers tried to put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning but after scoring a run, flied out to end the game.
Game 2: MMI 5 Calhoun 5
Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Calhoun plated three runs. They added two more runs in the sixth inning before Marion got on the scoreboard. Colby Davis reached on an error and took second on a passed ball. A balk allowed him to advance to third base and Mason Green singled him home.
With the War Hawks holding a 5-1 lead, the Tigers rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning for four runs. Luca Maberry doubled, and Connor White walked. Trenten Justice singled. Colby Davis singled to score Maberry. Mason Green's sacrifice fly scored White. With two outs Hunter Stowe reached on an error, allowing a run to score. Jack Beck walked, and the final run scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Due to darkness the game was called at five runs apiece.
