Baseball Drops Two Games to Coastal-North

Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team dropped a home doubleheader yesterday afternoon to the Eagles of Coastal Alabama CC-North, 7-4 and 5-4.  MMI will travel to Selma, Alabama this Saturday, February 26, for a doubleheader against Wallace Community College.  Game one is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.

Game 1: MMI 4 Coa-N 7

The Eagles of Coastal Alabama CC-North scored a run in the top of the second inning to take an early lead in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.  They added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings before MMI added a run in the bottom half of the fourth inning.  Jack Beck reached on a one out infield single.  Nicholas Purvis singled to move Beck into scoring position for Colby Davis who singled, allowing Beck to score.

Coastal-North added another run in both the fifth and sixth innings before the Tigers plated three runs in the sixth inning thanks to a three run home run off the bat of Colby Davis

Down 4-7, the Tigers' Trenten Justice reached first base after being hit by a pitch in their last at-bat, but the bats went silent, and Justice remained stranded.

Game 2: MMI 4 Coa-N 5

The Eagles added two runs in the second inning and another two runs in the third inning to take an early 4-0 lead. They added another run in the fifth inning off an MMI error.  The Tigers were held scoreless until the fifth inning when Colby Davis led off with a double; he advanced to third on a passed ball.  Mason Green walked, and then advanced to second on another passed ball.  With a new pitcher on the mound for Coastal-North Camden Matthews singled, scoring Davis and Green. 

Jonah Leland, in relief of starter Maxwell Grogan, held the Eagles scoreless in the sixth inning.  John Tunnell singled to lead off for Marion and advanced to second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Braeden BrownConnor White walked and a new pitcher for the Eagles hit Colby Davis and he took first base.  Mason Green watched four pitches for a bases loaded walk to score Tunnell.  Trenten Justice's sacrifice fly scored White; Davis advanced to third.  Camden Matthews brought in MMI's final two runs.

AJ Crocker took the mound for the Tigers in the final inning and after walking the lead batter, got the Eagles runner out at second base.  Crocker struck out the next two batters keeping MMI down just one run.  With Tunnell earning a two out single, he was stranded to end the game.
