Tigers Win Three of Four on Road Trip
The MMI baseball team won three of four games on their road trip last week, defeating Coastal Alabama-North twice and earning a doubleheader split with Bishop State CC.
Game 1: MMI 6 Coa-N 4
Maxwell Grogan started on the mound for Marion and worked three innings, giving up two hits, three runs and a walk with two strikeouts. Harrison Poplin worked four innings in relief and earned the win. Poplin gave up two hits, three walks, and a run while striking out four batters.
Jack Beck finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI and one run scored. Hunter Stowe hit a homerun, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored. Also getting hits for the Tigers were Trenten Justice, Camden Matthews, John Tunnell and Braeden Brown.
Game 2: MMI 12 Coa-N 3
Game two was called after five innings due to darkness and gave Marion the doubleheader sweep. Hunter Stowe hit two doubles in four plate appearances to lead the Tiger's offense. Mason Green doubled in one of his two hits with three RBI. Trenten Justice had two hits, scored twice, and was walked once on his way to a two RBI performance.
Nicholas Copen, Camden Matthews, and Jack Beck also collected hits in the win for freshman AJ Crocker who worked three innings in relief of starter Nicholas Copen. Cocker gave up just one hit and a walk while striking out five batters.
Game 3: MMI 2 BSCC 3
In their lone loss of the Tigers' road trip, MMI was defeated by the Wildcats of Bishop State in the bottom of the ninth inning. Trenten Justice, Nicholas Copen, Camden Matthews, Jack Beck, and Mason Green all had hits in the game for MMI.
Landen Williams took the mound to start game one of Friday's doubleheader and in seven innings he allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and a walk with five strikeouts. Joshua Gray took the loss, working an inning in relief of Williams.
Game 4: MMI 13 BSCC 10
The Tigers scattered 10 hits on their way to splitting the doubleheader with Joshua Mehmen earning the win. In five innings he gave up four runs (one earned) and a walk with six strikeouts. Also seeing action for Marion was Dale Coleman, Collin Rice, and Camden Matthews.
Hunter Stowe stayed hot at the plate with a double and a triple with three RBI and two runs scored. Luca Maberry had two hits in five plate appearances with two RBI. Also collecting hits were Mason Green, Trenten Justice, Nicholas Copen, Jack Beck, John Tunnell, and Braeden Brown.
Marion will host Bishop State Community College, Tuesday, February 15, for an ACCC North-South doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
