Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team played host to Wallace Community College-Selma Wednesday afternoon for a 13-inning fall scrimmage.

Once again, head coach Matt Downs worked several pitchers throughout the day with Jonah Leland getting the start.  After working two innings, Leland was relieved by Nicholas Copen who worked the third inning.  Dale Coleman saw action in the fourth and fifth innings and Joshua Mehmen worked the sixth inning for the Tigers.  Joshua Gray threw two innings, the seventh and eighth, with AJ Crocker seeing action on the mound for the next two innings.  Harrison Poplin worked the eleventh and twelfth innings and Connor White closed out the thirteenth inning for MMI.

The Patriots of WCCS scored in their first at-bat and then were held scoreless until the ninth inning when they plated two runs.  They added four more in the thirteenth inning to make the final score 10-7 MMI.

The Tigers were held scoreless until the fifth inning when Denzell Moore led off with a base hit.  James Oliver reached on an error and Dale McKee followed with a hit to load the bases.  John Tunnell hit into a fielder's choice to score Moore.

Marion added four runs in the sixth inning.  Hunter Stowe reached on an infield hit and Trenten Justice blasted a triple to deep left centerfield to score Stowe.  Nicholas Purvis singled up the middle to score Justice and moved to second base on a passed ball.  Denzell Moore reached first on a fielder's choice and James Oliver singled.  Moore and Oliver moved into scoring position after an errant throw from the Patriot outfield.  Dale McKee singled and both runners crossed the plate for Marion.

Another five runs crossed the plate for the home team in the seventh inning.  Mason Green led off with a walk.  Landen Williams connected for a one-out base hit, moving Green to third.  Camden Matthews reached on an error, allowing Green to score.  Nicholas Copen was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  A triple off the bat of Maxwell Grogan cleared the bases; Grogan scored on a double from Trenten Justice.

Marion will play next at AUM on Wednesday, October 6th, for an all-day fall event.
