Tigers Hosted Lawson State CC for Fall Scrimmage

Marion, AL. – The MMI baseball team hosted Lawson State Community College Tuesday afternoon for a 12-inning fall scrimmage game.

Head coach Matt Downs utilized multiple pitchers during the game with Joshua Mehmen earning the start and working one inning.  He was relieved by Nicholas Copen, Landen Williams, Ryan Felton, Collin Rice, Maxwell Grogan, Mason Green, James Beall, and Camden Matthews.

The Tigers took an early 2-0 lead after the second inning.  Trenten Justice led off the inning getting hit by a pitch.  Nicholas Purvis and Maxwell Grogan both walked to load the bases.  Colby Davis hit into a fielders' choice and scored Justice.  Dale McKee walked to load the bases once again for Marion.  Luca Maberry followed with another base on balls to bring in the second run.

Marion added another run in the third inning when Hunter Stowe, MMI's designated hitter, led off with a hit.  Trenten Justice walked and Copen was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Nicholas Purvis hit into a 6-4-3 double play, plating one run.

The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run homerun off the bat of Trenten JusticeJohn Tunnell had led off that inning with a base hit.

Another run crossed the plate in the sixth inning for MMI.  Andrew Williams, James Oliver, Denzell Moore, and Nicholas Copen all walked to bring the score to 6-0.

Lawson State scored off a three-run homerun to deep right field in the ninth inning.  Marion added two more runs in the bottom half of that inning when Camden Matthews earned a one out base hit.  Jack Beck followed with a hit and Braedon Brown was safe on a fielders' choice.  Connor White connected for a hit, scoring a run.  Andrew Williams reached on an error and James Oliver reached on an infield hit bringing in the second run of the inning.

LSCC added two more runs in the tenth inning which cut the lead to 8-5. 

The Tigers added their final three runs in the eleventh inning when Jack Beck started off the at-bat with an infield hit.  Braedon Brown reached on a fielders' choice.  Connor White connected for another base hit and Andrew Williams followed him with a walk.  James Oliver hit into a fielders' choice to bring in a run.  John Tunnell followed with a base hit, scoring a run and then a delayed steal allowed the runner from third to cross the plate.

The Tigers will host Wallace CC-Selma tomorrow for another fall scrimmage with the first pitch scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
