Wrestlers Capture Seminole Rattler Tournament

Tallahassee, FL. - The Marion Military Institute wrestling team, coached by Jim and Dave Hazewinkel, captured the 2015 Seminole-Rattler Tournament this past weekend.  With 150 team points, the Tigers outpaced the University of Central Florida, an NCWA perennial powerhouse, which took second place with 145.5 team points.  The University of Georgia took a distant third with 67.5 points.

Four Marion wrestlers were crowned tournament champions - Nino Cerna (133-lb.), DeAndre Beck (141-lb.), Michael Whalen (165-lb.), and Ronnie Caudill (184-lb.).

Tyrone Carter (125-lb.), Caleb Ellerbee (149-lb.), Jeremy Beesley (157-lb.), and John Long (285-lb.) finished second in their respective weight classes.  

BJ Thomas placed third in the 174-lb. weight class while teammate Josh Jamieson finished fourth in the 141-lb. weight class.  

The MMI wrestling team will host a Dual Meet this Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.
