Wadley, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers improved their ACCC Northrecord to 9-6 after sweeping the Lady Bisons Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: MMI 5 SUSCC 2
Sophomore Alex Reed earned the win in game one after pitching seven innings. She allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts. Madison Bubel and Morgan Gaither each had two hits for Marion. Bubel scored twice while Gaither crossed the plate once with a homerun and four RBI.
Game 2: MMI 6 SUSCC 5 (9 innings)
Southern Union took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning before MMI plated three runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. SUSCC added one in the fourth before Marion answered back with two runs iin the fifth inning. The Lady Bisons added three more runs in the fifth inning and the game remianed tied a 5-5 until the ninth inning when Marion added the winning run. Alex Reed, sophomore pitcher from Shelby, Alabama, earned her second win of the day after relieving Anna Claire Gresham from the circle. Reed worked 4.2 innings and gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out one SUSCC batter.
Whitney Edgecomb went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. Taylor Mitchell had two hits in three official at-bats with an RBI and a run scored. Kylie Bolton and Morgan Gaither each had two hits and a run scored. Also collecting hits for the Lady Tigers were Madison Bubel, Jaina Walden, and Dalton Merrill.
Marion is scheduled to host Shelton State CC Tuesday afternoon for an ACCC North doubleheader with a 1:00 p.m. start.
