MMI Dispatches Albany State University in Women’s Tennis

Marion, AL—The Lady Tigers rammed the Lady Rams of Albany State University, 7-0, in a Saturday afternoon match at the Paul B. Anderson Tennis Complex, winning five singles matches (one by default) and two doubles matches.

Both of MMI's doubles teams blanked the visitors, 8-0.  On court 1, Shannon Brewer and Lydia Carter bolted through their match with solid net and backcourt play.  Maria Cespedes and Victoria Jones overwhelmed their opponents with an impeccable performance in all phases of the game on court 2.

In singles action, Cespedes (6-0, 6-0), Carter (6-0, 6-2), and Jones (6-2, 6-1) routed their Lady Ram counterparts in singles slots 1, 2, and 3, respectively.

Shikiria Franklin looked like she was headed for defeat after losing the first set, 5-7, but she bounded back to take the last two sets, 6-1, 6-2, by playing her best tennis of the year.

The Lady Tigers go on the road to take on the Lady Sun Chiefs of Faulkner State Community College in Fairhope, AL, on Tuesday, March 11.  Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
