Marion, AL - The Meridian Lady Eagles clipped the Lady Tigers, 5-4, in a Friday afternoon matchup that featured five Marion players going up against six Meridian players. Marion suffered two losses (No. 6 Singles and No. 3 doubles) by forfeit. Despite being outnumbered, the Lady Tigers put up a strong fight, winning four of the seven matches played.
Four of the five singles matches went quickly, with Marion and Meridian splitting those matches. MMI's Shannon Brewer and Lydia Carter won easily at No.1 singles (6-0,6-1) and No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-0), respectively, while Meridian's Caroline Terry at No. 4 singles and Molly Davis at No. 5 singles took care of business by winning both of those matches with identical 6-0, 6-2 scores.
The remaining singles match (No. 2 singles) was a close one from start to finish. Maria Cespedes won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
The Lady Tigers will continue their home stand, butting heads with the Lady Golden Rams of Albany State University on Saturday, March 8. Match play is scheduled to begin at noon.
