Allen, Texas - The Marion Military Institute wrestling team finished 15th at the 2014 NCWA National Tournament this weekend. Four wrestlers competed for the Tigers in this year's event.
DeAndre Beck was Marion's top finisher, placing seventh in the 149-lb. weight class. He defeated Greg Artalona from Auburn in his final match. Beck was named to the 2014 NCWA All-American team.
In the 285-lb. weight class, John Long finished eighth after losing to Bowling Green State University's Greydon Pavlik. Long also earned NCWA All-American honors for his efforts.
Clayton Farrer and Jesse Garrett, MMI's other two participants, did not place at the tournament.
Former MMI wrestlers Ben Smith (125-lb.), Terrance Smith (184-lb.), and Marlen Morgan (285-lb.) helped Shorter University take third place at the tournament. Grand Canyon University finished first with Liberty University taking second place. Terrance was crowned a national champion while Ben finished second and Morgan took sixth place.
