Allen, TX - All four MMI wrestlers will be wrestling today, surviving the first day of competition at the NCWA National Champiosnhips. MMI is currently in 16th place with a team score of 23.5 points.
DeAndre Beack lost 12-4 in the first round of the tournament but rebounded with two major decisions to stay alive in the 149-lb. weight class.
Clayton Farrer (157-lb.) won his first match of the tournament by major decision but lost in the second round to drop into the consolation round. He received two byes in that bracket and will now face Jordan Hildreth from the University of Texas at Austin today.
Jesse Garrett, Marion's 165-pounder, won his first two matches before losing 4-8 to Clay Kocels from Penn State - Mont Alto. He will face Kenard Hird from Florida Gulf Coast University in the consolation round today.
MMI's Heavyweight, John Long, won his first two matches before losing to Peter An Angulano from Grand Canyon University (Fall 4:44), sending him into the consolation round. Long will face Brad Huizinga from RPI today.
