Marion Defeats Auburn and Alabama in Wrestling

Auburn, AL - The MMI wrestlers defeated the University of Alabama 41-0 and Auburn University 31-27 in a tri-meet hosted by Auburn Friday evening.  In the Auburn match, Marion's 149-pounder DeAndre Beck, defeated Greg Alalona 4-2 in the second overtime period.  Pinning their opponents were Clayton Farrer (157-lb.), Jesse Garrett (174-lb.), and John Long (285-lb.).  Earning a major decision was Ronnie Caudill in the 184-lb. weight class.  Also winning by forfeit was Zach Malone (235-lb.)

The Tigers will compete this weekend in the NCWA Southeastern Conference Tournament hosted by the University of Central Florida.  Participating teams include: Auburn University, University of Miami, Marion Military Institute, University of North Florida, University of Alabama, University of South Florida, Florida A&M University, Georgia Southern University, Florida Gulf Coast University,   Kennesaw State University, Florida Institute of Technology, Mercer University, Florida International University, Shorter University, Florida State University, University of Georgia, Tallahassee Community College, University of North Georgia, University of Central Florida, and the University of Florida.  

Weigh-ins begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning with the first round of wrestling to begin at 9:30 a.m. The SE Conference can send the top six placers in each weight class to the NCWA National Tournament, to be held in Allen, Texas starting on March 13th
