Marion, AL. - The MMI Lady Tigers won their first two fall games at home Friday afternoon against Lurleen B. Wallace CC.
Game One - Freshman Lexi McCray scored Marion's first run of the fall campaign in the second inning of game one, which gave Marion an early 1-0 lead. MMI added two more runs in the third when sophomore Danielle Phillips' double brought in freshmen Jaina Walden and Taylor Mitchell. LBW scored one of their two runs in the top of fourth inning. Marion plated five more runs in the bottom of that inning, to extend the lead to 8-1. In the fifth inning, Dalton Merrill led off with an infield hit. She was followed with hits from Yasmin Cottingham, Morgan Gaither, and Braedyn Ward. Cottingham scored on a pass ball. Anna Claire Gresham scored Gaither with a base hit, and Ward scored on a pass ball. The score after five innings was 12-1. Marion added four more in the sixth inning after LBW added another run in the top half of that inning. Final score of game one was 16-2. Sophomore Bryndi-Alyn Ward started in the circle for Marion and pitched six solid innings before Gresham relieved her to pitch a three-up, three-down seventh inning.
Game two saw Marion plate eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Taylor Mitchell led off with a triple and scored off a Whitney Edgecomb hit. Phillips doubled, scoring Edgecomb. Merrill brought in Phillips and Gaither followed with a hit-by-pitch. Anna Claire followed with another hit, scoring two more runs. Mitchell got her second hit of the inning and scored Kameron Hunt. Rios' double scored two in the next at-bat. Marion added two more runs in the second inning, three more in the third, and four more in the fourth inning. LBW scored their lone run in the fifth inning to make the final score 17-1. Freshman Lexi McCray and Alex Reed both saw action in the circle for Marion.
The Lady Tigers will host Wallace CC-Dothan Thursday afternoon for another afternoon doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
