Marion AL- The Marion Military Institute softball team scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and one in the sixth inning to beat Calhoun Community College in game one of an ACCC North doubleheader 6-4 Thursday afternoon. Emily Tarango led the game off with a single to left field. Kennedy Harrison followed suit with a single up the middle and Hayden Short earned her way on base with a fielders choice. With bases loaded and one out, Angel Harrison singled up the middle to score two Lady Tigers. Two walks would score two more runs and a Taylor Saucier fielders choice to the pitcher plated the fifth run of the inning. Calhoun threatened with four runs of their own. Marion would add an additional run in the sixth inning off of a solo homerun by Hayden Short. Starting Pitcher, Lindsey Savoie, allowed five hits and three runs with two strikeouts to pick up the win. Caitlynn Cooper picked up the save going three innings. Cooper gave up two hits and one run.
In game two MMI out hit Calhoun but could not push a run across as they lost 1-0. Caitlynn Cooper took the loss in the circle giving up one run on four hits and two strikeouts. Offensively, Hayden Short went two-for-three with a double.
The Lady Tigers will host Southern Union State Community College Saturday afternoon in another ACCC North doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
