Marion AL- The MMI Lady Tigers swept Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in their home opener, 5-1 and 9-8 (6 innings).
Game 1: Hayden Short got the offense rolling in the first game, going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and a two run home run that went deep over the left field fence. Ashley Holt went 1-for-2, with one RBI and Angelina Cardenas chipped in an RBI.
Caitlynn Cooper (1-1) got the win scattering five hits with three strikeouts, two walks, and one hit batter.
Game 2: LBW came out swinging early in the first inning of game two and the home squad fell behind 5-0. Marion scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to cut into the lead. Kadie Clark, Angel Harrison, and Hayden Short all recorded hits to put the home team on the board.
Marion scored one run in the second inning and took the lead 7-5 in the third inning before LBW took the lead back in fourth inning with a three-run homerun.
Persistence paid off for MMI as the Lady Tigers battled back to take the lead 9-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning to record the win (game called due to darkness).
Kadie Clark led the offense in the second game by going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Emily Tarango hit 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Hayden Short finished 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI. Kennedy Harrison and Annelise Borg each had an RBI.
Lindsey Savoie (2-0) got the wins with four strikeouts and two walks, scattering five hits with three earned runs. Caitlynn Cooper picked up a save throwing the top of the 6th inning.
MMI travels to Jones Community College Monday for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
