MARION, AL –A late comeback by the Marion Military Lady Tigers was not enough as Faulkner State Community College broke a deadlock in the sixth inning of the second game to win 8-6 and complete a doubleheader sweep here Tuesday afternoon.
Faulkner broke in front early in the opener to pull out a 6-3 win.
Ashley Soos continued her torrid hitting in the twinbill, slapping out two hits in the second game after getting three safeties in the opener. Ashley Strength had two hits in each game while Kalynn Allen had two hits in the nightcap and Taylor Anderson added two in the opner.
MMI fell behind 4-0 in the first inning of the opener and never caught up. The Lady Tigers scored one in the first as Soos doubled and scored on Strength's infield grounder. Marion added two more in the fifth as Athena Sayrie and Soos singled to open the frame with a run scoring on Strength's single. Anderson doubled and Soos scored on a relay throw.
After falling behind 6-0 in the nightcap, the Lady Tigers charged back to tie the score. MMI struck for two in the third as Soos singled and Strength doubled with Soos scoring on an error. Allen's RBI single scored the second run.
MMI added three in the fourth as Andie Lopez walked and Sayrie singled. Soos followed with a two-run double and scored on an error. The Lady Tigers tied it in the fifth as Taylor Miner doubled and scored on Emily Tarango's single.
However, a two-out two run double put Faulkner back ahead and the Lady Tigers left two runners stranded in each of their last two at bats.
"Once again we did a good job battling from behind in the second game," Coach Kristi Basso said. "However, we missed too many scoring opportunities ourselves. One big inning in each game hurt us. We are so close and when we learn to overcome adversity we are going to achieve our goal of winning."
