Charles Wright embarks upon his 11th year as head coach of the Marion Military Institute women’s tennis team and his 10th year at the helm of the men’s squad.

While in charge of the women’s program, Wright led the 2016-17 squad to the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC)/Region XXII title and an ITA/NJCAA final team ranking of #9 and the 2008-09 team to a runner-up finish in the ACCC and an ITA/NJCAA final team ranking of #24 in the nation.  Also during his tenure he has produced five ACCC MVP’s (Rachel Rossi twice, Carlee Conway, Stella Fedele, and Paola Bou), two Wilson/ITA Southeast JUCO Regional Singles Champions (Rachel Rossi twice), one Wilson/ITA Southeast JUCO Regional Doubles Champion (Rachel Rossi/Ashley Grafton), one USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Singles Champion (Carlee Conway), two USTA/ITA JUCO Southern Regional Doubles Champions (Leslie Frankland/Lydia Carter and Carlee Conway/Maria Cespedes), one ITA/Oracle Southern JUCO Regional Singles Champion (Paola Bou), and one ITA/Oracle Southern JUCO Regional Doubles Champion (Paola Bou/Alana Larcombe).  Paola Bou was named to the 2017 ITA All-America Team in Women’s Junior College Singles.  She attained a national ranking of #6.  Wright was named the NJCAA Region XXII (ACCC) Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2017.

On the men’s side, he has led the Tigers to nine straight top-25 finishes in the ITA/NJCAA final team rankings.  His 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 squads claimed the ACCC/Region XXII team title.  Player accolades include two Alabama Community College Conference MVP’s (Alex Fioravante and Shepherd Newcomb), two USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Singles Champions (Romar Hernandez and Kaiser De Leon), two USTA/ITA JUCO Southern Regional Singles Runners-Up (Peter Salomon and Adam Bahney), four USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Doubles Champions (Pil Ki Min/Peter Salomon, Romar Hernandez/Jake McDonough, Morgan Hale/Andrew Wright, and Andrew Wright/Harrison Foster), one USTA/ITA Southern JUCO Regional Doubles Runner-Up (Adam Bahney/Max Holloway), and one ITA/Oracle Southern JUCO Regional Doubles Runner-Up (Danny Boussom/Andrew Carey).  Wright has also been tabbed the NJCAA Region XXII (ACCC) Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

A native of Rochester, PA, Wright received a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from Edinboro University and a Master’s in English from Slippery Rock University.
