Baton Rouge, LA - After dropping two games in a row, the MMI men's basketball team earned a much needed victory on the road against Baton Rouge Community College, 60 to 53. Marion was able to build a double digit lead early in the first half behind a poor shooting performance from the home team. The Tigers held a 37 to 20 lead at the half. The Bears of BRCC made several runs late in the second half and were able to cut the lead to single digits with under one minute remaining in the contest. Key free throw shooting and ball control helped Marion finish strong and even their record to 4-4 on the season.
Freshman Ronnie Baylark, Jr. led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Baylark also shot 4-for-5 from the charity stripe while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Jamareo Duggan led Marion with seven rebounds. Christian Bradford and Dotson Griffin, Jr. each scored seven points in the victory while teammates Duggan, Malik Musgrove, and Braxton Abrams finished with six points apiece. Also contributing were Charles Steele, Jr (5), Chase Garvin (4), and Josh Ledbetter (2).
The Tigers will return from Thanksgiving Break to host Wallace State Community College-Selma on Tuesday, December 2, for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. All fans will receive FREE ADMISSION to the game with one (1) canned or non-perishable food item.
