Marion, AL. – The MMI men's basketball team (11-11, 2-4 ACCC North) won a hard fought game over the Gadsden State Community College Cardinals, 89-82, Monday evening in a conference matchup at the William R. Ireland Athletic Center.
The first half of the game featured a back-and-forth battle, with the Cardinals taking an early 12-4 lead. The Tigers clawed their way back and tied it at 22-all with 7:48 remaining in the first half after Charles Steele, Jr. hit his first of three three-pointers. MMI took a 52-39 lead into the break.
Sophomore Raymond Hobbs finished with a double-double, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds. Steele and Orlando Davis were huge for MMI off the bench. Davis netted 13 points while Steele finished with a team high 22 points.
Monta Sanford scored 11 points, pulled down seven boards and dished out five assists for the Tigers.
Greg Henry scored eight points and had a season high eight steals. Sammie Battle (7), DeAndric Thomas (3), Jamar Pope (3), and Quinttravious Guinn (2) each scored in the victory.
Marion returns to action Thursday (February 6) when the Tigers host Wallace State Community College – Hanceville in an ACCC North matchup. Tipoff at the IAC is set for 7 p.m.
