Marion's Men's Basketball Routes Eagles

12/17/13 -- Freshman Charles Steele, Jr. led three players in double figures as Marion Military Institute's men's basketball team routed Alabama Southern Community College 85-53 on Tuesday evening. 

Steele led a hot-shooting Marion team with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including a 4-for-7 finish from 3-point range. As a team, the Tigers shot 33-for-58 (56.9 percent), including a 12-for-13 (92.3 percent) finish from the free throw line.

Raymond Hobbs scored 16 for Marion while teammate Greg Henry finished with 12 points, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.  Also scoring for MMI were: Sammie Battle (8), Joshua Murrell (8), Monta Sanford (7), Quinttravious Guinn (5), Orlando Davis (4), Keon Binion (3), Jamar Poper (2), and DeAndric Thomas (2).

Sophomores Hobbs and Sanford led the Tigers in rebounds with six each while Freshmen Thomas and Guinn each had a team-high six assists.

The Tigers, who led 42-25 at halftime, are now 7-6 overall. They will take a four-game winning  streak into the Christmas break before facing Jeff Davis Community College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 4.
