12/4/13 - Sophomore Jamar Pope scored 17 points as the MMI men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 77-56 victory over William Carey JV. Marion trailed during the first half and took a four point deficit into halftime.
Pope led the Tigers with his 17-point output and added four rebounds in the victory. Joshua Murrel dropped in 14 points and seven rebounds while Monta Sanford scored 13 points and dished out three assists. In all, nine different players scored for the Tigers, who held the Crusaders to just 15 points in the second half. Greg Henry scored eight while grabbing five rebounds. Sammie Battle and Quinttravious Guinn each finished with six points while DeAndric Thomas tallied five points. Thomas also finished with five rebounds from the point guard position. Charles Steele, Jr. and Keon Binion scored three points apiece.
Marion didn't gain the lead from William Carey until early in the second half with the Crusaders trying to chip away at the lead to keep the outcome in question. The Tigers extended the lead to double digits with under five minutes left to play thanks to some strong drives to the basket and consistent free throw shooting.
The Tigers (4-6) will play at Jefferson Davis CC on Saturday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m.
