Baseball Earns First Win against LBW

Marion, AL - MMI starting pitcher Chris Pennell pitched six innings and eight of his teammates scattered nine hits in an 11-1 victory over Lurleen B. Wallace CC in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. 

Marion (1-8) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning before tacking on one more run in the fifth inning to go ahead by two.  LBW answered with one run in the sixth. The Tigers' bats exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning leading to nine runs and the convincing victory. 

Pennell struck out four and allowed just three hits while earning the victory.

Marion's Brady Colburn went 2-for-3 with one run. Anthony Spivey and Greg Gladden each went 1-for-3.  Gladden also scored two runs in the win. Hunter Wesson went 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.  Billy Rose, Zach Poticny, Bryce Laird, and Steven Ward each recorded a double for MMI.

Marion couldn't find the hits in the second game of the doubleheader.  Alex Reyna and Zach Poticny collected the only two hits for the Tigers in the 5-0 loss.

MMI will host Shelton State at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17.
